Mr. Chandrashekhar Narvekar (N. Chandra)

Mr. Chandrashekhar Narvekar popularly known in the film industry as N. Chandra is a well renowned Producer, Director & Writer. Starting his journey in the film industry at the young age of 17, assisting the renowned writer & lyricists Gulzar in the movie Parichay (1972), he went on to assist Bollywood stalwarts like Sunil Dutt, Pran Mehra, Waman Bhosley and Guru Dutt to name a few. During this period, he rose to the position of Chief Assistant Director working with many famous directors and producers of the era.

Being an honours graduate in literature from Bombay University, he had a flair for writing since an early age and went on to pen the scripts for more than 12 films including Ankush (1986), Pratighaat (1987), Humllaa (1992) to name a few. Eventually with Ankush, his directorial debut in 1986, he began his journey as a film Director & Producer following it up with critical and commercial successes like Pratighaat (1987), Ghayaal (1993), Beqabu (1996), Style (2001) & Xcuse Me (2003). One of his biggest hit was the 1988 film Tezaab starring Anil Kapoor and effectively launching Madhuri Dixit’s career.

He has served as the member of the governing council of FTTI (Pune) along with serving as the jury member for many awards like Filmfare, Screen etc. He was awarded ‘Chitraratna Puruskar‘ in 2009 by Doordarshan India and the Life Time Achievement Award by the Government of Goa in 2016 & Government of Rajasthan in 2022. He was a part of the jury for the 64th National Film Award (2017) and was the Chairman of the Jury for 67th National Film Awards (2020). Apart from his vast experience, his main strength is his intuition, convincing power and rapid decision-making, which have helped him survive in the volatile waters of the film making for last 53 years as an independent producer-director and still going strong.

Under the able mentorship & guidance of Mr. N. Chandra, DrammJamm is pleased to introduce its NEP 2020 focussed curriculum-based program in performing arts (Music, Dance & Theatre) for schools across India.
